At the City of Germantown’s annual Board and Commission Appreciation Dinner, community volunteers gathered to celebrate outstanding local service, with one of the highlights of the evening being the presentation of the 2024 Jo Reed Award. This year’s award went to an individual whose selfless dedication has shaped Germantown for decades: Allyson Smothers. The award was presented by Kristina Garner, President of the Leadership Germantown Alumni Association (LGAA), who described Allyson as a person whose countless acts of kindness often go unrecognized.
For over 30 years, Allyson has dedicated herself to the Kiwanis Club of Germantown, serving as District Lieutenant Governor and making history as the local club’s first female president. Her efforts have long enriched the community through projects like the annual Pancake Breakfast and sponsorship of the Southwind High School Key Club, encouraging leadership and community involvement among youth.
Allyson’s influence also extends to the Germantown arts scene. She has opened her home to musicians from the Iris Orchestra, forming lasting bonds with many visiting artists. Her hospitality and warmth have made Germantown a welcoming stop for orchestra members traveling from across the country.
In civic service, Allyson has been a key member of the Neighborhood Preservation Commission, actively shaping events such as the Neighborhood Summit and the Tour of Homes, which foster neighborhood pride and connection. Her work as a realtor with Crye-Leike has also left an indelible mark on the community, with clients and coworkers praising her for her integrity, loyalty, and willingness to lend a hand.
One nominator summed up Allyson’s dedication best: “Allyson doesn’t know the word ‘no.’ Whether someone needs a ride, a helping hand, or even pet care while they’re out of town, she’s there without hesitation.”
With her service and generosity reaching far beyond her official roles, Allyson Smothers embodies the spirit of the Jo Reed Award. Congratulations to Allyson, whose quiet leadership and tireless commitment have touched countless lives in Germantown.
